Primary Sjogren’s Syndrome

Primary Sjögren’s syndrome

Sjögren (“SHOW-grins”) is a systemic autoimmune condition that affects the whole body.

Primary Sjögren’s syndrome (pSS) is a systemic autoimmune disorder characterized by focal lymphocytic infiltration of the exocrine glands causing dry eyes and dry mouth. Other serious complications include deep fatigue, chronic pain, major organ involvement, neuropathy and lymphomas along with symptoms of extensive dryness.

Symptoms:

The most common symptoms include dry eyes, dry mouth, fatigue and musculoskeletal pain. However, no two people have the exact same set of symptoms so patients should remember to share all their symptoms with their primary healthcare provider to receive a proper diagnosis.
